A.S.K OBSERVES BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 2021

Nairobi, October 27th, 2021 – The Agricultural Society of Kenya (A.S.K) acknowledges the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and understands the global burden of this disease. The Society will be observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October through a forum dubbed “Breaking the Financial Burden of Cancer Treatments”, which will highlight the available breast cancer financial assistance opportunities. In partnership with the Nairobi Women’s Hospital & Texas Cancer Centre, we will also conduct a free breast examination & cervix exam at the Jamhuri Park, Nairobi Showground on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 29th, 30th and 31st October 2021 respectively. The Forum, scheduled for Saturday, 30th October 2021, will include panelists from Nairobi Womens Hospital, NHIF, Texas Cancer Centre, and Faraja Cancer Support and is supported by Safaricom Ltd as well.

Breast cancer became the most commonly diagnosed cancer type in the world in 2020. It is estimated that there were more than 2.26 million new cases of breast cancer and almost 685 000 deaths from breast cancer worldwide in 2020. Breast cancer accounted for more than 10% of all new cancer cases and almost 7% of all cancer deaths in 2020. (Source: www.iarc.who.int)

The Society over the coming weeks has dedicated to sensitize the public on breast cancer as acquired from the public domain through our social media handles on Facebook, twitter and Instagram and through our website.

The Society cordially welcomes everyone to join us on these days and learn more about the most common cancer type in the world, the measures we can take to possibly prevent it and the financial aid opportunities available.
