STATEMENT OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Agricultural society of Kenya (A.S.K) has continued to mainstream Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) just like forward-thinking companies the world over, embedding sustainability into the core of their business operations to create shared value for business and society. CSR is the responsibility of an Organization for the impacts of its decisions and activities on society, the environment and its own prosperity, known as the "triple bottom line" of people, planet, and profit. CSR requires organizations to adopt a broader view of its responsibilities that includes not only stakeholders, but employees, suppliers, customers, the local community, the government, environmental groups, and other special interest groups. In compliance the A.S.K has continued to review her responsibilities to interest groups in order to meet this threshold.

The Society has developed and established a comprehensive set of sustainable business initiatives that facilitate our triple bottom-line approach to operating our business. We acknowledge our responsibility to the environment and to our local communities through our branch network. ASK endeavors to continue being a responsible employer by embracing principles and values of good corporate governance.

For the period under review, ASK actively encouraged her staff to recognize their responsibilities to the environment and to our stakeholders.

ASK enjoyed good working relationships with its Stakeholders in the Agricultural and Trade sectors as well as the Government in a mutual and co-operative way, ensuring full, transparent, fair, accurate, timely and understandable disclosure/public communication. The Society thus achieved to encourage sustainable and long-term mutually rewarding relationships. The following are some of the rewarding CSR engagements achieved during the period under review;

Monitoring and Overseeing the management of the Society, being a model of integrity and inspiring a culture of responsible behavior with high ethical standards while ensuring that the Society corporate resources are used for appropriate business purposes.  With this there are strong internal controls to avoid conflicts of interest and promote fiscal accountability in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Community Involvement: Prior to the commencement of each of the ASK shows, each branch donated foodstuffs and supported certain priority projects to identified children homes. The society has decided to broaden her support initiatives to the needy in the coming years.

Employee Participation and Involvement:  ASK acknowledges that our success is people based and we seek to recruit, retain, reward and develop creative talent in our organization, further the Society will reward innovation. We continually seek to identify and improve through training, the needs of our most valued asset, our Employees.

 

The Society carried out other Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives which served to solidify and build new working relationships with both stakeholders as well as the surrounding communities.

ASK endeavors to continue elevating her partners, customers, suppliers and surrounding communities to create positive change. The society seeks to be innovators, leaders and contributors to an inclusive society and a healthy environment so that ASK and everyone she comes into contact with can endure and thrive.
